Default $10 Million Dollar Buy in Tournament at Fox Sports Network

Anybody heard about the $10 Million Dollar buy-in tournament? It's going to be the biggest televised poker deal ever. The first show is scheduled for Wednesday July 12, 2006 with 6 participants. Rumours are that Phil Ivey and Barry Greenstein will be playing.

I was actually going to enter this, but I already have that day booked, so I'm going to have to pass.

But seriously, that is a ridiculous amount of money. Are they going to be able to find 6 participants willing to risk $10 million?

If they do, I would definitely love to see it. That would be the most intense poker tournament of all time for sure.

The interesting thing is, are the people who have and wish to spend $10 million on a buy-in the same people who are the best at poker? It almost seems more likely that a Bill Gates-type would be more likely to play something like that than a pro poker player, who can enter tourneys with much less personal risk.

Then again, I guess they could get staked, or if it was going to be lots of Bill Gates-types, that would make it attractive to a pro who could get the cash.

During the WSOP I saw Negreanu interviewed and he said that the Main Event should be more like this, a really worthy entry fee. The $10k can be put up by a lot more rookies and satellites. I think he suggested it be a $1 Million buy in, maybe it was half a million.
