Default Sept. 17 quiz

A $15-$30 game. You open with a raise from middle position with the Ad-Qc. Two other middle players call. There is $115 in the pot and three players. The flop comes: 9d-7d-5h, giving you a backdoor nut flush-draw and two overcards. You bet into two opponents. Only one opponent calls. There is $145 in the pot and two players. The turn is the 9s. You bet again because the top card has paired, your opponent did not raise your flop bet, and you might win the pot outright. He calls. There is $205 in the pot. The river is the 3d. What do you do?

With only 6 outs (12-15% chance of catching a winning hand) after the flop and top pair on the board after the turn, I only see two decent options: check and see what the opponent does, or bet so far over the top that he thinks I have the diamond flush. If he's been playing very tight, I would probably try the bluff. If he's been unpredictable, or if he's a new player to me, I would check. If he pushed, I would put him on the flush or straight and I would fold.

I would check. There is really no reason to bet since he as called you all thought the hand he will be calling again on the river. the only thing that you might get him off is busted straight draw since he would have gotten to his dimond flush. Plus its not a very good idea to bluff your opponet out when your laying him almost 8 to 1.

I'm guessing that the second option is unavailable because the betting to this point in the hand leads me to assume the game being played is limit, not no-limit. It would be nice if this information had been included in the initial post though so we could be certain.

Good point, Arjonius. I was assuming no limit, but you're right, there's nothing to indicate for sure that it's no limit.
