Simon Trumper
by Greg Cavouras

While not one of the headline players in North America YET, Simon ‘Aces’ Trumper is one of the top players in Europe. His exciting style and aggressive play have been earning him titles all over the world, and he is one of the most dominant players in his native United Kingdom. Since his debut in 1995, “Aces” Trumper has been a fixture at all of the biggest tournaments overseas, and is approaching legendary status in England.

Born in Kensington, May 31st 1963, Simon Trumper was a late bloomer as far as poker players go; he didn’t start playing poker until 1995. Trumper started off playing in small, low-limit games; before long, he found himself winning more and more, and as his bankroll grew, he progressed to bigger tournaments with higher limits.

Although he may have started later in life, it didn’t take Trumper long to establish himself as a Poker player. In his 2nd year playing competitive poker, Trumper placed in four major UK tournaments, winning thousands for his success. 1997 would prove to be his breakout year, as he finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in 4 events at the European Championships, proving that he is the real deal.

Watching Simon Trumper play cards is an exciting experience. Although there are subtle differences in the style of play in the European tournaments compared with what we’re used to in North America, Trumper is a classic gambler. He is one of the best players in the world at reading his opponents, and plays a very creative style of Poker. He also has a certain presence that some other top players lack; the attention at a table inevitably finds it’s way over to Trumper. Many of his European opponents describe Trumper as the player they “need to beat if they want to win”.

While Trumper hasn’t made a huge impact at the World Series of Poker (he has yet to win a bracelet at the prestigious American event), he has definitely left his mark on the European scene. Since his debut in the late 90’s, Trumper has placed in over fifty big tournaments. Since 1997, he has made over 30 final tables, and these accomplishments have made him one of the world’s most feared players.

One of the things that separates Aces from his rivals is his impressive commitment to Poker. You can find him at virtually any major tournament, anywhere in the world, as long as there is money and prestige involved. He is a regular on the UK circuit, and regularly leaves with his fair share of chips.

It’s only a matter of time before Trumper stakes his claim in North America, and don’t expect this international superstar to be short stacked against anyone!
