Easily one of the most recognizable faces in the Poker world, Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson is one of the game’s top players. Despite being reputed to be one of the nicest players away from the tables, Chris is a fierce competitor, as he has earned himself five WSOP bracelets.

Now 42 years old, Chris Ferguson has been playing cards since elementary school. Although he is a very competitive person by nature, Chris played more or less recreationally until 1994, when he decided to go after a career as a poker player. His focus in the early days was low-limit tournament play, and he acquitted himself quite well, playing good poker but mindful of his bankroll. In 1995, he entered his first World Series of Poker event. Having tasted the big time, Chris returned to the WSOP in 1996, after winning a satellite into the main event, and tasted success for the first time. He would return to the WSOP every year thereafter, finishing in the money every time, but never higher than 4th. That all changed in 2000, when he stunned the Poker world by taking out veteran T.J. Cloutier at the final table to claim the title. In what would become a very memorable hand, Ferguson gambled on his A-9 against TJ’s A-Q; Ferguson caught a 9 on the river and took the win. In addition to his main event win, in 2000 he also took home the 7-card stud bracelet.

While it is tough to summarize a top player’s style of play, watching Ferguson at the tables it becomes clear that he is a very calculated player. His strong mathematical background makes him a force to play against, but arguably his best attribute is his ability to remain level-headed. He is one of the best in the business at maintaining an even keel in adverse situations, and this has served him well.

On top of his main event victory in 2000, Ferguson holds 4 other bracelets, including 2 from the 2003 WSOP. Chris plays less on the circuit than he used to, but you can still catch him at all the WPT events and every day in the WSOP, where he will try to add to his bracelet collection. Away from Poker, he enjoys day trading and swing dancing. Chris is also known for his involvement in the very successful player-designed Full Tilt Poker site.

With his successful brand of Poker, and personable attitude, Chris Ferguson is a great competitor and a good ambassador for the game as whole.
