PLAY ONLINE SLOTS

The first mechanical slot was invented by a car mechanic in 1895. It was called the Liberty Bell and included three spinning reels. The concept of the slot machine game has come a long way since the Liberty Bell, from the machines that create the ambiance of present-day land casinos, to the virtual slot machines available at online casinos. You’ll find the top five online casinos to play slots at here. Don’t waste your time with trial and error—we’ve already done the assessment.

How to Play Online Slots

Understanding how to play online slots can be a bit taxing, especially if you haven’t played in a land-based casino before. Even if you have visited a land-based casino, you may still be having trouble understanding all the different types of slot machines, bet lines, and bonuses. This page will give you a basic crash course in online slots, so you won’t be stuck on play money for the rest of your life!

To start with, not all slots are created equally, and when you are selecting a slot machine, you shouldn’t pick the one with the most relevant-to-you theme. Some people may really enjoy hunting, for example, but that is no reason to pick a slot machine because the wild symbol is a shotgun shell and the bonus is a double turkey. There’s a reason there are so many different types of slot games; they all offer a different mixture of stakes, bet lines, reel combinations, etc. So, be informed before you play the mountain-cabin-themed slot machine, just because you have a mountain cabin.

Next, be knowledgeable about the RNG—the Random Number Generator. It is exactly what its name says; it randomly selects numbers (hundreds every second, actually) that are associated with the symbols and numbers associated with a slot machine. The common belief most slot players have, at a land-based casino anyway, is thinking that if they get up, the next person to sit down may very well pull the handle and win. This factor often makes it very hard for players to ever stop playing one machine. But this notion is incorrect. By the time you get up, walk away, another player sits down, inserts money, and pulls the handle, the RNG will have generated thousands of new number combinations since you got up, meaning your next pull would have happened five minutes ago. And even if you were to sit there and hang out for a few minutes, the exact mille-second that the handle was pulled, or the button pushed, would not have any chance, hardly, at being the same mille-second the next player will push the same button. Therefore, the RNG is, and always will be, different. The mille-second is the utmost definition of luck.

When you choose your game, you will have a choice between a 3-reel or 5-reel slot machine. Three-reel slots have a very simplistic betting payout. There are fewer combinations to be spun from three reels than from five, and usually don’t have any special bonus features. If you want a more complicated and complex game with more winning combinations, go with the 5-reel. You should also be familiar with a slot’s denomination and win amounts before deciding to play. Some machines, especially at the online casinos, will let you choose a coin value, such as coin values that can be changed to be worth $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, or $1.00 (and so on).

Perhaps you have heard the terms, loose slots or tight slots. In a land-based casino, you will find looser slots in high-trafficked areas, so that casino visitors will see other players winning more frequently, as they walk through the casino. Likewise, in a land casino, you shouldn’t play two adjacent machines at the same time because tight slots are often put beside loose machines.

Over a period of time, on average, a loose slot will yield a better payoff to a “certified” high score of 100%. Loose slot machines have more paying symbols; therefore, they yield greater payout probabilities. Tight slots would be those with fewer paying symbols. The percentage rate of a slot’s average payoff is calculated over a long period of time, sometimes as long as a year’s time. So, a slot with a 98% payoff rate pays out at differing percentages that can range from low percentages such as 30% to higher percentages like 500%. A low percentage indicates a down slot cycle; whereas higher numbers represent an up slot cycle. You will probably hear these terms used when talking about slots (a.k.a. sizzling slot or sputtering slot). A slot’s payout percentage is determined by two numbers: the slot drop and the slot hold. The slot drop is the amount of money that goes through the slot. The slot hold is the amount of money not paid out in winnings.

Slots that are referred to as basic, straight, or flat top machines will offer a constant top jackpot win that will never change over time, no matter how often that slot is played. Another term you will want to know is multiplier, which grants multiplying values to certain symbols, and these symbols multiply your win by the multiplier value. Bonus multiplier slots will offer bigger top jackpots to players as an incentive to play the maximum chip limit. Slots with multiplier wild symbols will payout bonus credits, scatter payouts, and free spins.

There are also many different types of slot games. For instance, double machines will pay two times or three times when certain winning combinations are pulled. Another type is signature slots. These games are a casino’s own unique brand of slots, and are typically looser for casino promotion. Yet another is the progressive slot, which pays out ever-increasing jackpots; when someone wins, the jackpot is set back to the minimum. Keep in mind, you must play max bets on these slots or you won’t be eligible for the progressive. Finally, bonus video slots are interactive and sometimes advertise a brand or company (e.g. Monopoly).

The #1 tip to remember is, if a slot game doesn’t payout after 3-5 max coins spins, change to another machine.
